Two people. One boat. One dream. Different comfort expectations, same leap of faith.

Mac and I are wired very differently.
He is the man who could literally live under a rock and be completely content. Give him a tight space, no lights, no fuss — and he’s happy. He’s not afraid of the dark, not claustrophobic, and doesn’t need “stuff” to feel at home. He is self-sufficient to his core. If it breaks, he fixes it. If it doesn’t exist, he builds it. If it needs power, he’ll wire it.
Then there’s me.
I need a bed. A proper one. I need a fridge. I need a kitchen where I can cook proper food. I need hot showers. And yes… I need internet.
So when we decided to live on a boat, there was only one logical solution.
We chose a boat big enough for both our dreams.
And instead of disappearing happily into some tiny steel cave with a torch and a toolkit, Mac now gets to install: Solar for power / Navigation systems and Starlink
Everything that makes floating luxury meet ocean survival!
He genuinely loves what he’s doing — and I think, quietly, he enjoys some of the luxuries too.
So, I can cook dinner, shower in hot water, feel grounded — and still work as a Support Coordinator with a different view from my window every day…while he still gets to disappear into engines, wiring and systems — exactly where he’s happiest.
And you know what?
This boat is the perfect reflection of our relationship.
Two very different people. Two very different needs. One shared dream.
He gets freedom through self-sufficiency. I get freedom through comfort and connection.
And somehow, through a ridiculous amount of cables, solar panels, batteries, pumps, plumbing and patience — we are building a floating world where both of those things can exist at the same time.
This is what Deep Blue Sailing is really about.
Not just the ocean. Not just the boat. But the beautiful, messy, practical love required to build a life that works for both people — even when their dreams look nothing alike.
